Best of Baja Whale Watching - Itinerary

Day One:

  • Meet at San Diego Brown field at 7:00 AM, depart 8:00 AM, fly to San Felipe or Ensenda to clear customs. Flightsee along Sea of Cortez and Pacific coast looking for whales to Laguna Ojo De Libre (Scammons Lagoon), van transfer to lagoon. Whale watch and picnic lunch afternoon day 1 - Parque de Ballenas de Gris (back of the Scammons Lagoon - whale nursery). Transfer to nearby Bed & Breakfast in Guerro Negro.

  • Evening presentation by local expert on the California Gray whale, regional habitat and environment (Lunch, Dinner, 1 whale watching session)

Day Two:

  • Lecture on the Viscaino Biosphere Reserve (the largest in Latin America) and the Gray Whale (Ballenas Gris) followed by whale watch trip in Laguna Ojo De Libre (front of lagoon) in A.M., and picnic lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll enjoy more whale watching in Parque de Ballenas de Gris (back of the Lagoon) or open afternoon for nature walks by the lagoon, bicycling or free time.

  • During evening hor d'veours and cocktails, a 1-hour Spanish language mini-course with local teachers and our staff. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - 2 whale watching sessions)

Day Three:

  • Take off in your private aircraft for a scenic 45-minute flight with spectacular aerial views on the way to San Ignacio Lagoon. Short aerial whale watching of San Igancio Laguna, boat tour of San Igancio Laguna followed by picnic lunch before our flight to Scammons Lagoon (Ojo de Libre). Short aerial tour of Scammons Lagoon whales on return.

  • Before dinner, an easy and delicious Mexican cooking class for those who want to join in. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner -1 whale watching sessions) (weather will determine if we go whale watching or visit the Viscaino Biosphere Reserve on day 3 or 4)

Day Four:

  • Morning van trip to the El Viscaino Biosphere Reserve for walking exploration and Indian Pictographs viewing. The reserve was established by the Mexican Government in 1988. The area covers 2,546,790 hectares and includes the Vizcaino Desert, the Sebastian Vizcaino Bay, and San Ignacio Lagoon. The United Nations Educational Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have also designated this area as an internationally recognized biosphere reserve. Afternoon return by van with short break before horDeveuors.

  • Practice your Spanish at an evening Mexican dinner outing at local restaurant (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) (weather will determine if we go whale watching or visit the Viscaino Biosphere Reserve on day 3 or 4)

Day Five:

  • Morning whale watching at mouth of Scammons Lagoon (Ojo’s de Lebre) Depart Guerro Negro followed by picnic lunch in route to airport. Return scenic flight along Pacific Ocean and interior of Baja. Arrive Brown field, San Diego aprox. 5:00 PM. (Breakfast, Lunch)
